This week It all added up for our young entrepreneurs who found themselves swapping the classroom for the boardroom, as they entered ‘The Dragons Den’ with their pitches .Every class from nursery to Year Six, was asked to set up a mini-business. The youngsters were given the task of thinking of every detail, from business ideas to the running costs.Teachers came up with the enterprise week idea to encourage children to use their maths skills.
The children’s ideas included making and selling fridge magnets, Gruffalo biscuits, Fairtrade goods, gingerbread men, luxury chocolates, cakes , pizzas milkshakes and wacky jelly! The school was transformed into a bustling market place in which children sold their wares to parents and staff.
All the pupils worked with excitement and enthusiasm from start to finish . The project enabled them to improve their mental maths and written calculation skills, as well as having a greater understanding of how a business works.
We are very grateful to local businesses including Savera bakery, Fountain delights, who supported the school and the children throughout the project. The week ended with a math production by hobgoblins theatre company. Here are the highlights ….
